I just got this camera today (finally an available body only since I have no use for the kit lens) and I am awed. I had done a lot of research on this before buying it so I knew what to expect in terms of both the big upgrade issues as well as the little tweaks they have done, some of which turn out to be really terrific. If you are coming from another Black Friday Canon EOS Rebel T2i the menus and interface will be second nature. Based on another very positive review just posted, coming from Nikon it’s also an easy step. Here are some early observations:

The Best:
A huge bump in ISO. This was one of the two main reasons I upgraded from my trusty (and still good) XSI. I have made some test shots and despite going up to an 18 MP sensor the noise is not much of an issue and I shot several pics at ISO 3200 which look quite good. I then shot some in 6400 which did start to show some noise in the low light Black Friday Canon EOS Rebel T2i but still made for serviceable pictures. I am looking forward to seeing what it will do around a campfire at an upcoming camping trip with my daughter! My XSI despite a F/2.8 lens could not do much with that in the past.

This is the 5th A series Canon I have purchased (three for myself, two for my adult daughter). All prior Canons were replaced because they lasted so long they became outdated. This one was bought because it’s very pocketable, uses easily obtained AA cell batteries and mostly because of the price. The Canon A590IS it supplements is 4 yrs. old, still works great but is a little bulky to fit in my wife’s pocketbook. Black Friday Canon PowerShot A495 couldn’t be easier to use and the stills are very good. Videos are limited to 640×480 but are acceptable from essentially a point and shoot camera. Complaints about battery life must be coming from people using alkaline batteries. If you buy this, or any other modern AA powered camera, invest in rechargable ni-mh batteries or single use lithium cells. Alkalines just weren’t designed to power large displays and all the other features of modern P&S Black Friday Canon PowerShot A495. You do have to supply your own memory card but that’s consistant throughout newer camera manufactuers.

I really only have a couple of complaints. Somehow my unit got a fairly large spec of dust inside the lens, and for awhile, all my images/video had a blurry spot on them – particularly in images with fairly strong light/midrange backgrounds. I’m a little concern about the seal and its ability to prevent dust from entering into the lens. Eventually, this speck of dust went away and my images are back to normal -With that said though, I’ve found it best to convert it to a different format for editing…a step that I would rather avoid. These two issues prevented me from giving the product a full five-star rating.

Overall, though, I’m impressed with this camera and it fit the bill perfectly for me. I hope you’ve found this review helpful!

I’m a just a fellow who wants to take nature photos, and my kid at soccer and stuff for eBay and such. I owned a Canon EOS 7D with fancy lenses, the whole works–about $3000 worth of Canon stuff. all I needed was Black Friday Canon SX30IS.It’s a great camera, the pricey Black Friday Canon SX30IS. But it had plenty of drawbacks: price, size, bulk, complex attachments, battery life, compact flash rather than SDR cards, and on and on.I pop this into a Lowepro camera fannypack and I’m good to shoot and walk and hike all afternoon. I adore the zoom, and as the reviewer below me states, when I zoom, of course there’s less light entry into the camera and the images will be “hazy”. So, you must select a very bright subject at top zoom. I can easily take my son on the bench across the entire field in soccer, Black Friday Canon SX30IS and it’s amazing.
